Dr. Nordyke's Wound Honey is a topical ointment that has natural anti-bacterial properties which aid in healing, help soothe painful wounds, and protect against infections.
The key ingredient to this powerful wound care topical is Active Manuka Honey, imported directly from New Zealand. Active Manuka Honey is pure, natural, unpasteurized, organic honey that is collected from the Tea Tree Bush (Leptospermum). Active Manuka Honey is clinically proven to have antibacterial properties, including activity against MRSA. Active Manuka decreases infections, reduces malodor, soothes pain, and protects against additional infections.
• Wound Honey has antibacterial properties that assist in clearing infections and protect wounds against additional infections.
• Wound Honey has anti-inflammatory properties which reduce swelling and improve circulation to the wound site, reducing pain and decreasing exudates (ooze) from the wound.
• Wound Honey has natural emollient and antiseptic properties which reduce pain.
• Wound Honey stimulates granulation to speed up healing and minimize scarring.
• Wound Honey has been found to effectively treat superbugs such as MRSA and VRE.
• Wound Honey also contains Aloe Vera and Panthenol to increase its effectiveness in reducing pain and scarring.
Dr. Nordyke's Wound Honey uses the power of Active Manuka Honey and combines it with Aloe Vera and Panthenol (a non-irritating form of Vitamin B) to increase the soothing properties, assist in cell regeneration, and speed up healing.
Honey has been used to treat wounds for over four thousand years. All honey contains a naturally-occurring enzyme which produces hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide produced by honey is a natural antiseptic and antibiotic.
The powerful key ingredient to Wound Honey is Active Manuka Honey, imported directly from New Zealand. Active Manuka Honey is a pure, natural, un-pasteurized organic honey produced by bees that collect nectar from the Manuka Bush or Tea Tree Bush (Leptospermum). In addition to the enzyme which produces hydrogen peroxide, Manuka Honey contains a high level of additional, non-peroxide, antibacterial components. Methylglyoxal (MGO) and an unidentified synergistic component are what create this additional antibacterial component and more than double the effectiveness of the honey as a wound care topical.
Active Manuka Honey also acts as an anti-inflammatory and reduces or eliminates unpleasant odor (malodor) from exudating (oozing) wounds, pressure or diabetic ulcers, venous leg ulcers, or wounds with necrotic tissue. The bacteria present in the wound feed off of the sugars in the honey, which release gasses that eliminate the malodor while healing the wound.
Active Manuka Honey has recently received world-wide attention for its effectiveness in destroying antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and VRE (Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci) – commonly referred to as “superbugs”. Studies show that these superbugs are destroyed by Manuka Honey by drawing out moisture from the bacterial cells, making it impossible for the bacteria to survive.
In addition to healing infections, Active Manuka Honey helps to prevent scarring. This natural product does not damage skin cells while healing infections. During the healing process, a scab is produced to prevent blood loss. Cell production increases to create new skin cells under the scab. A scab often has an uneven texture, thus the new skin cells are formed with the same uneven texture. This uneven skin texture makes scars more noticeable. Manuka Honey stimulates granulation of tissue and creates a moist healing environment, gently lifting the scab while new skin cells are generated. This creates a level surface for the new skin cells, reducing the visibility of scars. What is Manuka Honey and how does it work?
Manuka Honey is a pure, natural, un-pasteurized organic honey produced by bees that collect nectar from the Manuka Bush or Tea Tree Bush (Leptospermum), indigenous to New Zealand. Can Wound Honey be used on infants and toddlers?
Pasteurized honey is a known source of bacterial spores that produce Clostridium botulinum bacteria. When ingested by infants, these bacteria make a toxin that can cause infant botulism, a rare and serious form of food poisoning. Wound Honey is to be used topically only and is not pasteurized, however, due to the uncertainty of any effects it might have on infants, we do not recommend its use.
Can Wound Honey be used on elderly people?
Absolutely. Wound Honey is commonly used in elderly patients with wounds such as bed and pressure sores. Because there are no harmful chemicals and it is completely natural, Wound Honey is safe enough for sensitive skin.
Is Wound Honey safe for diabetics?
Yes. Wound Honey was initially developed by a podiatrist to assist in the healing of diabetic foot wounds. It is commonly used to treat diabetic leg and foot wounds and diabetic ulcers.
Should Wound Honey be used on people who are allergic to bee venom or bee products?
No. If you have allergies to bee venom or bee products, it is not recommended that you use Wound Honey.
Can Wound Honey be used on animals?
Yes. Wound Honey is currently being used by pet owners and veterinarians throughout the country for cuts and wounds, hot spots, dermatitis, surgical wounds and more.
What does Wound Honey feel like on a wound?
Because Wound Honey contains natural emollient and antiseptic properties, Wound Honey can feel very soothing. However, due to the activity levels in the honey, it is possible to feel a slight stinging or burning when first applied. This is considered normal and will subside within minutes. Wound Honey is a honey product, it will be sticky, therefore we recommend covering it with a non-stick bandage.
How long should I use Wound Honey?
For the maximum benefits and results, Wound Honey should be used until the wound is completely healed. To minimize scarring after the wound has completely healed, reduce use to once a day and continue to apply for several more weeks.
How should Wound Honey be stored?
Wound Honey should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. As with any honey product, if Wound Honey is cooled, it will harden and possibly crystalize. If this happens, place honey tube in a cup of warm water to bring the honey back to its original viscosity.
